How to Beat Fear and Walk in Faith

How to Beat Fear and Walk by Faith

Do you ever struggle with fear? Do you know what it is to beat fear and walk by faith?

This past week has been a rough one.

I have struggled with fear day in and day out. It has been fear to the point of feeling physically sick to my stomach.

I used to struggle with fear early on in our marriage, (10 plus years ago) and really thought I had beaten that long ago. Yet here it was again.

At that time, I claimed 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

This week, I continued to claim that, yet I was perplexed by this fear.

The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

It’s easy to forget that often the fear problem isn’t us.

It is a Spiritual attack.

This week it happened again-I was completely taken by surprise, and though I spent the week claiming the Word of God over the fear, I thought it was just me.

But on Sunday morning, I was singing on the Worship Team at church and suddenly I realized that it had been a Spiritual thing, not me.

How freeing. If you are a follower of Christ, you know that the Bible says that fear is not of God.

1 John 4: 18 says “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.”

So how can we choose to walk in Faith instead of fear?

Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

God is a God of Faith. We cannot do it alone, but with the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to do exceedingly, abundantly beyond what we could ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

When we accept Christ as Savior, we are able to do anything that he did while on the earth with his help.

Is walking in faith over fear easy? Absolutely not. Daily we are bombarded by media stories of horrible things happening, family and friends going through struggles, ourselves going through hard stuff yet God promises that he will see us through. We aren’t called to try to walk this Christian walk alone. We are called to walk it with the help of Christ who gives us strength. (Phil 4:13)

Am I perfect in this walk? Of course not.

Will I possibly struggle again? Probably, but I know he is well able to help if I’ll only let him.

Today, I encourage you. Rest in him. Trust in him. He is able to do more than you could ever imagine.
